Supporting our Families and Local Community
At The Wendy House, we take pride in supporting not only the children in our care but also their families and the local community. We understand the importance of creating a nurturing environment that extends beyond the classroom.
Family Involvement
We believe that involving families in their child's early education journey is crucial. That's why we encourage parents to participate in various activities and events at The Wendy House. From parent-keyworker meetings, questionnaires and feedback to farm trips and picnics in the park, we aim to create a strong bond between The Wendy House and families.
Community Engagement
As a charitable organisation, we are committed to giving back to the local community. Whether it's through fundraising events, volunteering opportunities, or collaborations with other local businesses, we strive to make a positive impact beyond our premises.
Cosy coats for chilly children
During the colder months we have a rail of preloved coats that are free to our families and the local community. Weather dependent the rail is placed outside our building during the hours that we are open. Please help yourself to what you need. In 2024 we extended the rail to also offer shoes and jumpers. If the rail is not out and you need a coat for your child, please let us know and we will see if we have something suitable for your child. We take donations of coats, jumpers and shoes suitable for children from birth to age 11.
St Marks Meals
We are partnered with St Marks Meals, a registered charity which works with schools and Childrens centres to ensure children aren’t going hungry. St Marks Meals provide us with meal boxes that contain everything needed, including a recipe card, for a complete meal serving a family of 4. We then pass these meals on to our families, in times of financial or other difficulties. There are 5 different boxes so that allergies, intolerances religious or cultural needs can be catered for.
If a meal box would help please let us know and we can provide you with a meal for an evening. Please don’t be offended if you are offered a meal box, we know not everyone likes to ask, we just want to make your day a little easier.
To find out more about about the meal boxes and the charity that provides them please see their website:

Supporting Childrens oral health
At The Wendy House we recognise that oral health contributes to a child’s overall well-being. Good oral health habits prevents tooth decay and supports speech development. Healthy habits such as regular brushing and dental visits are easier to establish in childhood and reduce the risk of later and long term dental issues.
At the beginning of each academic year we provide every child on our register with a tooth brush, toothpaste and a toothbrushing chart, the pack also contains helpful tips and information for parents.
